5.Start Seeing Fear as an Open Door of Opportunity

Fear breeds inaction, and inaction breeds discontentment. Instead of running away when fear shows up, develop an action plan and stick with it. A perfect example is from the life of a young shepherd boy named David. You can read the entire story in First Samuel 17. This is more than just a Sunday school story; it is an action plan to face your fears.

The army of Saul is a perfect representation of how people react to fear. Every day the giant would come out and challenge the army to fight. Instead of taking him on, they were terrified. Their way of handling fear was to hide in the trenches (see 1 Sam. 17:8-10).

When David heard Goliath’s challenge, he developed a plan of action (see 1 Sam. 17:38-51). You know how this turned out. God honored his courage and gave him a tremendous victory.

Like me, you have heard this story more times than you can count. But there is something under the surface that many people overlook. I believe David looked behind Goliath (fear) and saw an open door of opportunity. What do you think would have happened if David had followed the crowd and refused to take on Goliath? I doubt we would have ever heard of him, and I most certainly would not be using him as an illustration.

Learn the lesson of David. Use your fear as a stepping stone to your next level of promotion, not a burial ground for unfulfilled vision.

Personally, I can always tell when God is preparing to move me to another level of ministry. Each and every time a new Goliath will show up, meaner and stronger than the last. It’s as if God is waiting and watching to see what I will do. I don’t run, I just ask God for wisdom and strength and move straight ahead. I refuse to bow to any fear that is going to rob me, my family, or my ministry of what God has in store for us!
