Within two years, our performances had increased to well over three hundred a year. We also performed at such venues as Lion Country Safari, San Diego Zoo, Knott’s Berry Farm and Disneyland. We were chosen as the resident children’s theatre company by the City of Brea.

We launched the dinner theatre portion of our company, L.P. Repertory, and became the resident theatre company for the city of Tustin as well as the Muckenthaler Cultural Arts Center, doing outdoor dinner theatre “on the green.” Over the years, we performed Catch Me, If You Can; Play It Again, Sam; The Drunkard; and The Rainmaker, among others. Being pre-cast in the female leads made life much easier when it came to that audition thing. Don’t want to audition? Help start a theatre company.

Between two to four performances per day during the week for the kids, and spring and summer with the dinner theatre, I had little time left over for anything else. There were hundreds of performances a year—sometimes with sixteen-hour days.

I disappeared into my theatre world for several years, with only intermittent contact with anyone outside of the theatre company.

However, every few months I did stop by to see Tim at the tobacco shop where he worked. I also spoke with Merry Lou and Phil on the phone, but finding time to get together with them was a rare occurrence.

When we did get together, it was as if no time had passed at all. Quickly we were able to just fall into that pattern that says a friendship is solid. Easily joking, none of the awkward pauses that could have been there. Just a comfortable fit as if putting on a favorite robe and slippers.

Phil was writing and putting out books like crazy. I was acting and putting out plays like crazy. Tim was writing and working. Merry Lou was busy getting married and starting a family. The love was there for old friends who had been through so much together, and knew and accepted each other for who we were. But the group no longer got together as we had in years past.

We stayed in touch, though. No drifting away with us. There was always that.
