The added weight of Duke and Michel, specifically Duke, caused Mr Flagstad’s desk to go lower and lower as it veered towards the face of the cliff. Michel glanced down and saw that he was just a few metres above the ledge.
“Now Duke!”
Duke let go of Mr Flagstad’s black cloak just as the Master fired off another shot, which just whizzed over Duke’s head and into the cliff. Michel dropped and just managed to land, feet first, onto the ledge. He threw himself into the cave and behind a large rock. He then got a firm grip on the leash as Duke fell past the ledge towards the bottom of the canyon, screaming like a hyena as he plummeted. Michel held onto the leash with all his strength, stopping the fall.
“Dogs aren’t meant to bungee jump! Hurry! Pull me up!”
The Master slapped his forehead and yelled a word that is unmentionable before zooming round to face the cave. He fired off another crackling shot from his cane, which hit the side of the cave.
The Master aimed his cane again, this time at Duke. Michel started to haul Duke up as fast as he could, using all his strength and panting with each pull.
A red faced Mr Flagstad flew his desk up to the Master’s and joined him side by side. “I’m so sorry Master, I didn’t know what to do.”
The Master had Duke targeted. “Do shut up, Flagstad. I’ve got you now, you disgusting, thieving creature.”
Mr Flagstad clasped his head in his hands as a stream of tears dripped from his eyes. Without looking, he put his elbows onto his desk and knocked the desk’s joystick, moving his desk to the side and bumping into the Master’s. The sudden jolt threw the Master’s aim off and yet another shot was wasted, fizzing through the air and into the canyon.
“Flagstad!”
Michel continued heaving and reeling in the leash until Duke at last reached the ledge. He scrambled up using all his paws and hopped into the cave. Without a pause, Michel spotted then grabbed up a couple of skateboards and charged deep into the dark cave with Duke following rapidly. All of a sudden there was no more ground and Duke and Michel dropped into nothingness.
The boiling red-faced Master seethed and glared at Mr Flagstad, whose eyes looked this way and that before turning downwards along with his head. He grovelled, “I’m sorry, Master.”
The Master recharged his cane, aimed it at Mr Flagstad and started beating him over the head like he was a piñata. “You stupid, imbecilic, moronic fool!”
Mr Flagstad hunched up, cowering, protecting himself with his flabby arms. “Sorry. Please forgive me, Master.”
The Master struck him with even more force until Mr Flagstad began wobbling even more than normal. “How can you be so inept?” He ceased bashing Mr Flagstad and wailed, “Floobleschticks!”
The Master fired off another shot at the side of the canyon opposite, which now looked as if a humungous monster had bitten a chunk out of the side of it.
