1. Storing rope in a pack then coiling off. The excess rope is in the guide’s pack. The rope exits the pack and goes to a clove hitch on the belay loop. Notice how the guide traps the strand with his sternum strap and hip belt to keep things neat.
2. From the clove hitch you pass the rope behind your neck and down to your hand. Your hand should be at the top of your belay loop.
3. Form tight coils by wrapping the rope around your hand and neck. Try to keep your hand in the same position so your coils are all the same length.
