Cash was already handing out guns and clips to everyone. Roul and Grayson had theirs. With the HK416s slung over their shoulders, they loaded up on clips and headed out the door. The wolves came in pairs to get their weapons and ammo until all of them were armed and dangerous – even more so than usual for them. As they came and went, I started to notice a difference in the two packs here today.

Roul’s wolves, while equally strong and deadly, had a more casual way about them. They came in quietly and politely, got their guns and gear and left. They all looked and dressed like bodyguards, but each had their own personal touch, like a piercing, a tattoo or green hair.

Cash’s packmates; however, must have all been military at some point. Their identical haircuts and stance were a dead giveaway. High and tights came in pairs, stopping in front of Cash; Their legs were slightly spread and their hands were behind their backs in the at ease position. After they received their weapons, they made a sharp quarter turn and made their way back to their posts until they were ordered to leave.

The witches each took a USP Compact 9mm, but left the Eco and HK416s. They had their own weapons, and they weren’t holy water or crosses. Cash made his way over to me and handed me a XD Subcompact, an Eco and one other gun that he didn‘t hand out to the rest of the group.

“I’d give you an HK416, but I hear you don’t spend a lot of time at the range, so you get the Eco. And the XD has a short barrel. At 3” it’ll have some kick, so if you do have to use it, just try to keep a tight hold on it.” He handed me two clips for the XD. “You won’t even use that much ammo for the XD, and you’d be dead before you unloaded the first clip, but take it anyways, just in case.”

“Aw, gee, thanks. Now, could you stop saying shit like that? I mean really, we all get it, okay. You don’t have to keep telling us how dead we’ll be and just how fast it will happen, okay?” I said.

I dropped the clips I wouldn’t need into one of the large pockets on the side of my pant leg and waited for him to let me have it. He didn’t. He just handed me a very modern-looking shotgun; it was not at all similar to what I had seen at the station. Ours still had wooden stocks, the old-fashioned double-barrel kind; of course, we sawed ours down. Hey we’re the cops, who’s gonna turn us in? Besides, when you’re faced with an angry vamp at close range, you usually want a big fucking hole in your enemy.

“Benelli M4 Super 90. You won’t get too many shots with that so don’t rely on it too much. The Eco is your primary weapon,” Cash instructed.
