Sure, there are some relationships that are hopelessly destructive. When hearts are hard, God himself can’t change the marriage. But when two people allow the Holy Spirit to soften their hearts, take them past their emotions, change their perceptions of reality, and see one another as Jesus sees them, there is hope.

If you continually use your emotions as reasons to act, you may very well lose some of the most precious things in your life! Thankfully, you don’t have to. These verses in Ephesians 2:1-3 describe your former life. You’re in Christ now. Living at the mercy of your emotions and appetites is not part of your new life in him. You are a victim no longer. Instead, you are a person of self-mastery, a person who can make smart choices to live honorably and do the right things.

How is this possible? The answer begins with God’s own nature.
