Chapter Eleven

Gathered in the illumination of the moonlight, the new Magnolia Bay coven gathered with hands clasped tightly. Maddi and Anna Belle sat inside the large circle. Nana Dot began the chant because she was the eldest. After the first round of words were complete, the entire group joined in. Placing a spell she’d written for safety was the only solution the old woman could conjure up. She had seen the spell work but not against something as strong as the Crowe Curse.

The magic of the coven was strong and powerful, but was it powerful enough to counter the ugly black magic of generations ago? The girls sat hopeful inside the circle as they felt their bodies change in ways they couldn’t explain.

Andrew Albright returned promptly to his home following the wedding of his son to the most beautiful bride he’d ever seen since his own wedding day. As he walked through the morgue of the local hospital, thoughts of his young bride haunted him. He wondered why Chelsea chose to leave behind the people he’d spent the weekend with. They were all a lovely family.

In a private ceremony, Andrew said goodbye to his wife for the final time. Her ashes were scattered among the rose garden she’d cared for more than she cared for herself. It was a sobering moment for Andrew. He realized as he watched the ashes fly to the ground that the burnt remains were not of a woman he loved but of a woman he knew nothing about until it was too late.

Immediately retreating back to the warmth of their family home, the elderly man called a local realtor and the very next day he put his house on the market. He packed a bag and planned to leave as soon as he had an offer on the house. He wanted to be closer to his son. Magnolia Bay had captured his heart. He couldn’t imagine living one more day in a town that held such horrible secrets for him and his broken family.

As he drove the short drive into the bayside town, Andrew looked at neighborhoods and all the houses with For Sale signs displayed in the lawns. Many caught his eye, but the one that he felt the most connection to was only a couple of miles from the area where his son lived. It was a beautiful bungalow, walking distance to the shoreline. The house wasn’t big at all, but he was sure it had enough space for his needs.

He drove to the nearest hotel. All the years he’d spent ruining tourist towns such as this by designing large high-rises was not a waste after all. He made an appointment with the realtor listed on the sign. On the drive, Andrew realized his past life only prepared him for what was sure to come. He deserved to relax, enjoy his older years, and be with the son he only thought he knew.
