Subgame Perfect Equilibria

We now characterize the properties of subgame perfect equilibria to the game. Using the backward induction logic inherent in SPE, we start with the last decision and work backward through the tree.

Effort Level

Once engaged in conflict, leaders decide how hard to try. The effort level is increasing in the size of the winning coalition. We start with B’s effort decision. B, having observed A’s effort, gA, decides what proportion of available resources to dedicate to the war effort.
