Would Science Be Altered by Proving NDEs?

The world is governed, say the scientists, by a set of natural laws. For example, the notion that gravity holds our feet on the planet is a simplification of the laws of gravity. Another such law states that all life-forms on earth are carbon based. The world of science is based on these and many other assumptions, and much progress has been made because we know and live by these laws.

If we were to open up a new dimension by proving life after death, it would revolutionize science by introducing other dimensions to study scientifically than the ones we know.

For instance, if it were proved that a person could leave his body and travel through walls just by thinking, it would change the way science thinks about communication and travel, not to mention the properties of life.

It would prove a whole other universe, one that is certainly more developed than the one we now live in. The implications of such a find almost defy description. Can you imagine penetrating another dimension and talking to members of civilizations long dead? Or, for that matter, could you imagine the effect that proof of the spirit world would have upon the science of warfare? I think it would make it virtually obsolete.

If we knew that there was a spirit world in which love and knowledge were the only attributes of importance and the things that wars are fought for—money, land, political power—were important only here on earth, it would certainly change our attitudes and beliefs about the people we consider enemies.

It would make us look at these people in a new light. After all, existence of a spirit world would mean that we would be destined to spend eternity with these people. It would also mean that in our life after life, we would be able to know exactly how they felt about life on earth and about us. Just knowing that such a realm exists would surely make us more tolerant of each other.

There is one problem with NDEs: As it now stands, they are just anecdotal evidence. It has not been possible to scientifically duplicate them or study them on a closer level than what we could call “word of mouth.” Until the NDE phenomenon can be duplicated, science can’t accept these stories as proof of anything but the existence of something that happens to people who almost die.

Although these anecdotes have been extremely convincing to me and a host of other physicians, until they can be successfully replicated, NDEs can always be called into question.
