While this is quite a range of returns it is important to note that even picking just the bottom 50% of loans investor returns would still be positive. With a well-diversified portfolio of at least 800 notes it would be pretty much statistically impossible for an investor to only choose notes from the bottom 50%. But this chart does provide an idea of the range of returns likely within each loan grade for a well-diversified portfolio.

The Trading Platform

When Lending Club launched in 2007 there was no trading platform. There was no way to sell notes; once you invested in a loan you had to hold that note to maturity.
