Rhys watched Aneira, taking in the world with child-like wonder. It was no surprise to him, she had never witnessed anything outside the castle grounds of Graupel. He couldn’t imagine what would make a father do something so cruel to his only child. It lacked compassion, understanding, and desire for her to grow through experience. To him it felt like a way to attempt to control things that were not truly within one’s control at all. Grasping at a power that didn’t belong to you, came at a great cost to those involved; the innocent and the seeker of control.

Rhys was counting down the days until her birthday, he knew without doubt that he was in love with her, and he hoped she felt the same; if she did not, he would be devastated. Knowing this was designed by the very people who chose to control her, made him physically ill. However, he couldn’t deny the strong bond the two had; it was as if they had acted as a pair for a long time now. She had always seemed so alone in this world, he knew from very young that he wanted to be the one that was there for her. She had her lady’s maids over the years, but they came and went. Once a maid came of age, it made sense for them to marry.

What didn’t make sense to Rhys, was why that meant they had to leave Aneira behind. They all lived in the same castle for star’s sake. He couldn’t keep thinking about all of this, it made him so very angry to see the woman he loved hurt, and made him unreasonable.

He envisioned a future where they had managed to find a way to lift the forever frost, and watch the kingdom thrive. In collaboration with the surrounding kingdoms and magical creatures they now knew truly existed, he saw a Graupel rich with culture, magic, flora and fauna. A thriving village with a growing populace, and centers for study and education. Trade between kingdoms could ensure peace and understanding. Oh! How he dreamed of that day. Right now, Graupel was withering away. He would hate to see the light within her fade. It would destroy the woman whom he had come to love.
