We will fall short of enjoying family and friends if we assume they all speak the same language—ours. However, when we take time to carefully observe and listen for their language of love, we will experience aha moments that can change the course of relationships—from struggling to good then maybe from good to great.

The next time you tell someone you love him or her, ask yourself this question: “What language of love does this person speak?” Take the time to learn the person’s language whether it’s:

• Your child

• Your spouse

• Your mom

• Your dad

• Your sibling

• Your coworker

• Your old friend

Where you felt less than optimistic, where you thought there was no possibility of change, you hopefully will begin to see things in a new light as the words “I love you” take on a whole new meaning.
