Children and teens found delight in many aspects of camp life. Children played tag and hide-and-seek from barrack to barrack. Teens enjoyed Saturday night dances. Instead of sitting with their parents in the mess halls, they drifted away to eat with their friends. They fashioned a world of their own, free from adult interference. Their parents were distressed by the fraying of family ties. They worried that their children had too much freedom. Many parents tried to lay down rules as they had at home. However, in camp the old ways no longer applied. Camp life had its own rules.
