When he arrived at the hotel in Las Vegas where he left, Nia was out having lunch with her mother who came into town to visit her. Luca allowed Zoe to come with him to the west coast so that she could go to Disney;and and she was over the moon excited.

“Okay, you have to hide behind this couch and I when I say the word Disneyland, jump out and surprise Ms. Jiles, okay?” he instructed Zoe.

“Yep! We’re going to get her good!” She laughed.

“Yes we are. She is not expecting this.” He smiled from ear to ear at the thought of seeing her smiling face.

Zoe rushed behind a couch and within a few moments Nia walked through the door, carrying a to-go bag from the restaurant.

“Come here beautiful,” he said, beckoning her.

Excited to see him, she dropped her bag and rushed to his arms. Their lips locked, and tongues intertwined in elation.

“Oh my God! I’ve missed you so much,” she shrieked as she planted kisses to his face.

“I’ve missed you too.”

“How did it go with my father?”

“It went well. He’s going to be okay. He’ll have to sell Sweet Magnolia’s. But let’s talk about that another time. I want to talk and think about joyful things. Not that mess that’s over for us. We can discuss those details when we come back.”

“Come back from where?” she asked, her eyebrow raised in suspicion.

“From… Disneyland!”

“Ms. Jiles!” Zoe leapt from behind the couch and ran to her teacher.

“Oh my God, Zoe! Look at you, beautiful! You’ve gotten taller since I last saw you. And the sun has been good to your skin,” she said, commenting on her tan.

“Thank you! I missed you too! I miss school!”

Nia laughed; she had never heard a child say they missed school during summer break.

May she always stay this way, Nia said to herself.

“You’ll be back before you know it.”

“But before then, we have to go to Disneyland!” She threw her hands to the ceiling.

“Yeah, Nia, we’re really going to Disneyland. Start packing tonight. I figured we can go to California tomorrow. Zoe will be with us a couple of weeks and then I’ll take her back to Philly.”

“I don’t want go back,” she whimpered.

“You might get tired of California. You might miss Uncle Luca.” Rocco attempted to calm her down.

“No I won’t!” Her brazenness made him and Nia laugh.

“Let’s cross that bridge when we get there. For now, let’s help Nia pack for Cali.”

“Okay.” She smiled as they all went to help her pack her things.
