Me

Home Sweet Home

In my thirty-three years of living, I’ve had 24 homes in 7 states and 2 countries. My daughter is 11 and has lived in 10 homes. I grew up moving around a lot, not exactly an army brat but my dad worked for the government and it was similar. I have no hometown.

I continue the pattern with my daughter, moving when things get sour or fall through, moving for adventure when I was younger and then later, moving in search of a better place to raise my child (Colorado, California, Minneapolis). Each time, I wind up coming back to Maryland, to be in the proximity of my family…when I get broke, or have a messy break up, or my friends leave town. My friends tend to move a lot, also. I’ve never really found that better place, and never totally find the support I need to raise my child. There is nothing as permanent or supportive as my own family, even though when I was young we declared our friends to be family and found our own values and lifestyles, so different than our kin’s. I’ve never really felt I had much of a choice in the matter of my transient lifestyle.
