Chapter Fourteen

“You shouldn’t be here,” Daylen growled at Stark as he pulled his jacket on in the frosty dawn air.

“No, you shouldn’t be here,” Stark retorted like the annoying little thorn he was. “We need a ride back.”

“Dude, you’re bare-ass naked. You aren’t getting your balls on my seats. Where are your damn clothes?” he snapped as Stark cupped his dick and trotted after him.

“Me and Marsden ran all the way from your property to here. As wolves. Obviously.”

Daylen ignored him and continued on toward his truck.

“Wolves don’t wear clothes, Daylen,” Stark said loudly.

“Shhhhh! Shh, shh, shut…up!” Daylen hissed out. “You’re going to wake Denver.”

“We’ve been out here freezing our nuts off for you,” Marsden growled as he yanked open the passenger-side door and slid inside. Butt…naked.

“Get out of my truck, Marsden,” Daylen growled.

It was downright entertaining watching Marsden slide out of the truck unwillingly. He clung to the seat and the dashboard for a few seconds, but he couldn’t fight an Alpha order. “I’m going to eat you,” he choked out just before he hit the snow.

Stark shoved Daylen in the shoulder.

“Don’t,” Daylen snarled.

“You suck as an Alpha.”

“No, shit, Sherlock. I was always going to suck. I’ve been trying to tell all of you that.”

Daylen climbed in behind the wheel, leaned over the bench seat, and yanked the passenger door closed as Marsden came to stand beside Stark.

“You owe us,” Marsden said.

“Owe you for what?” Daylen demanded.

“Forget it,” Stark said to Marsden. “He’s shit and he’ll always be shit, and he won’t see anything but that goddamn scar on his face. Everything else is invisible, so what’s the point?”

Marsden dropped his gaze, but Stark’s blazing blue eyes stayed trained on Daylen.

Daylen looked to the peaceful serenity of Denver’s home, then back to Stark. Why were they in these woods, and why hadn’t they knocked or called for him? They’d been out here for an hour, at least.

He swallowed the growl of frustration that threatened to claw up the back of his throat, and softer, he asked, “Why do I owe you?”

“We weren’t here to fuck with you,” Stark gritted out. “Tessa was in these woods last night.”

“We figured you would want us to keep her off the fox,” Marsden murmured, eyes still downcast.

“How did you know she would come here?” Daylen asked, already knowing the answer. The boys were smart enough.

“It’s her only move,” Stark said.

Truth be told, half of Daylen had showed up here to Denver’s house because he’d needed her to calm him down and tell him everything was all right, but the other half? Well, that half was the wolf, and he knew Tessa. She’d been his Alpha for a long time. Daylen would’ve come even if he didn’t need reassurance from Denver. He would’ve come to make sure the she-wolf left her alone.

Never had he thought to ask the boys to team up. They’d never been a team before.

He rubbed his eyes and muttered, “Get in.”

“Yesss,” Stark said as he and Marsden jogged around the car to hop in the passenger side.
