To make the relevance of this kind of analysis to OE even clearer, construct syllable trees for the following OE words (taken from the Hymn): (i) mōd, spirit, (ii) ōr, beginning, (iii) hrōf, roof. Notice that each word contains a long vowel, and that ōr has no Onset.
