11 Lucy

Lucy stretched, and the day before came rushing back. She quickly realized that none of the craziness had been a dream: Eric trying to take her into the back room. A man saving her. A shifter. A dragon shifter.

She felt rested, better than she had in a very long time. Somehow, this was her real life now. And Lucy wasn’t sure she was ready for it. Shifters and telepaths and strange little girls, oh my. She shook her head.

“You’re awake.” Kai pulled her closer.

She inhaled his scent. Okay, I could get used to this part.

He chuckled.

“Yes. I’m awake.” She sighed. “Now what?”

“Well, I’m going to hack into the lab and let the fun begin.”

Kai pulled her against his chest and pressed his lips to hers. She expected him to be demanding and force his tongue in her mouth. Instead, the kiss was soft, and he slowly ran his tongue along her lips until she opened. Her body melted into his with each swipe of his tongue. Her body leaned farther into his. She needed him like she needed her next breath. If this was what it was like to find a mate, she never wanted to lose the feeling.

He wrapped his arm around her waist. His other hand traced circles along her back. She wanted to rip off her shirt, climb on top of him, and have her way. Kai pulled back and rested his forehead against hers.

He smiled down at her. “I would love to see you strip your shirt off, but we need to get up. Everyone is waiting for us downstairs.”

“Can I take a quick shower?” She needed to cool her body down. The kiss had her almost falling over the edge… She had no clue what it would be like when they actually slept together.

Kai cocked his head and smiled. She smacked his chest and climbed out of bed. His arm shot out as he tried to catch her. She dodged him and shut the door.

The cool water felt good. She ran the soap over her body and stopped when her fingers glided over the cut on her wrist. Lucy felt stupid; Eric had said he was worried about her, and the GPS was not mandatory. Being a single woman living alone, with nothing to hide, she hadn’t had a problem being monitored. Now she knew what the monitoring was really for.

Lucy turned off the water and quickly dried off. She saw a pile of clothes to the side. Talia must’ve put clothes in the bathroom sometime during the night. She pulled on a pair of jeans; they fit around the waist but were just too long. Lucy was used to that. She rolled up the jeans and grabbed the tank top next. She quickly ran her hands through her hair.

Her feet faltered when she opened the door. Kai stood in the bedroom with a towel wrapped around his waist. Beads of water dripped down his body. He must’ve showered somewhere else. His abs glistened in the sunlight.
