Chapter 20

Arderin awoke, her mind hazy and clouded. Basic instincts pulsed inside her starving body. Breath. Hunger. Sex. Survival.

Claws of death scratched at her, urging her to drown in the murky depths. Hot. She was so fucking hot. She’d had enough medical training that her muddled brain understood she had a fever. Most likely from her starving body’s efforts to survive. Fire scorched her, and she dragged off her jeans and shoes, needing to expose her burning skin to cool air. Rolling onto her back, her arm flailed, searching for something. Someone. Wasn’t there someone trapped in this hellhole with her?

Finding a warm body, she snuggled into it, feeling a thick thigh cover hers. Wrapped in the strength of the male frame, her head tilted back. Eyes closed, unable to open due to the sticky sleep that pervaded them, her lips searched for their mate.

A warm, wet mouth covered hers, shooting thrills of joy through her dying body. It caught her tiny mewls, drinking them as if they were the sustenance it needed. By the goddess, she’d never tasted anything as savory as her phantom lover’s kiss.

Still in a dream, his hand slid down her side and latched onto the button of his pants. Releasing it and lowering the zipper, her lover set himself free. Slithering his palm over her naked thigh, he dragged it over his leg, opening her. Gasping, Arderin lifted her lids.

Darkrip’s olive-green irises stared back at her, into her, filled with lust and desire. The bottomless orbs swirled with limitless emotion. Anger, frustration, affection, arousal—they all warred in the eyes of the man she’d come to care so deeply for.

Not knowing where the energy came from, she pushed him onto his back. Sliding over him, she spread apart, straddling his hips, aligning her wetness with his straining shaft.

Nostrils flared as he secured her hips with his broad hands. There, they stayed, eyes locked together, for eternity. Or maybe only a moment. Inhaling a deep breath, Darkrip clenched his teeth and thrust into her.

Her spine bowed, head thrown back as her lids closed from the pain of his invasion. Feeling him throb inside her, she stayed still, frozen, unsure what to do.

Ever so slowly, he pulled himself from her tight channel. As he pushed back in, she felt tiny pangs of pleasure. Testing, she began to move with him, slightly, tentatively.

His breathing was labored below her as she moved atop his body. Blood pounded in her veins as she caught onto the rhythm. Her untried body understood; the undulation of her hips swaying to the intrinsic knowledge of the dance older than time.

Darkrip snaked a hand under her sweater. Fingers delved beneath the cup of her bra, pinching her straining nipple. Releasing a moan, Arderin’s pace increased, needing more. Sitting up, he yanked the sweater over her shoulders and devoured her mouth. Tongues mated as their joined bodies strained toward ultimate pleasure. Where she’d originally felt pain, now, she felt such joy as his smooth skin traveled up and down her innermost place.
