For their rock is not like our Rock, as even our enemies concede. Their vine comes from the vine of Sodom and from the fields of Gomorrah. Their grapes are filled with poison, and their clusters with bitterness. Their wine is the venom of serpents, the deadly poison of cobras (Deuteronomy 32:31-33).

This rock, before which the Mason must bow down during his initiation of the second degree, has an engraved inscription that says “Jah-Bul-On,” which symbolizes a trinity of the gods: Jehovah, Baal, and Osiris, who are invoked in higher degrees. The manner of invocation is through the repetition of each syllable of this name in the form of a “mantra,” as it is done in yoga, to summon the presence of the Great Architect of the Universe. I repeat again that Jehovah, the God of the Bible, does not mix with any other god, nor does He acknowledge any another god as part of His court.

Now, let’s briefly look at the meaning of this rock that is so flaunted by Masons. In the Bibliotheque des Philosophes Chimiques, the French alchemist, Hortelano, in his explanation of The Emerald Tablet by Hermes, shows us with clarity this interrelation with the spiritual world. Hermes, the great philosopher of ancient Egypt, attributed all universal wisdom to this rock. The rock was the symbol of the entire cosmos; it was also the beginning and end of all things. Everything that people are, as well as their relationship with the universe, is symbolized by it.

Regarding this philosophical stone, Hortelano writes, “The underside of the rock is the earth, which is the mid-wife, the ferment, and the upper side is heaven, which brings the stone to life and resuscitates it…” Hortelano explains:
