Sierra

Sierra walked slowly along the street, her feet a shuffle beneath her as her body ached from the night before. Bruises had erupted across her body as a result of the lesson which Perion had wanted to teach her, his fury laying into her over and over until she had passed out from the pain.

When she had awoken that morning it was to a cool cloth being pressed against her head as her Mother watched over her. Sierra's skin had crawled at the attempted comfort and she had pushed the hand away immediately, not wanting any contact from the woman who refused to protect her, who didn't even want her.

A car rolled to a stop just ahead of her and she peered up to see Josh jumping out of the vehicle with wide eyes. His gaze flicked over her from head to toe and she paused under his scrutiny.

"Good morning, Josh."

His eyes shot to hers and, after a brief heart beat, he plastered a smile on his face that Sierra knew to be fake. Concern laced his eyes and his voice as he replied and she squirmed uncomfortably; he couldn't possibly know, could he?

"Hey buttercup, you okay?"

She ignored the implication behind his words, deciding he could not possibly know that she was hurting, and gave a weak smile as she wordlessly climbed into the car with a small nod of her head. She rested back against the seat, casting her gaze around to see that Josh and Theo were in the back this time, with Leo riding shot gun. They each smiled at her, their eyes flickering over her the same way that Josh's had before Nik pulled the car away from the curb and she smiled back at them faintly.

"So," Leo twisted in his seat to look at her, his brow pinched in what could be perceived as worry. "What did you get up to last night?"

Sierra felt her heat beat pick up as she stared back at him, panic settling in at the innocent question that could imply so much. She shouldn't even be here, she should have left earlier to avoid them.

Get it together Sierra!

She fixed another smile on her face and gave a half shrug, resisting the wince that tried to accompany the gesture. Forcing normality into her voice, she replied.

"Nothing worth mentioning. Yourselves?"

Leo mirrored her actions as he replied, his forehead still creased with worry.

"Not much. Just television and gaming."

She nodded at the simple reply before turning her gaze to her hands which were knotted on her lap. As she stared at them Theo reached out slowly, closing his hand over hers and giving it a gentle squeeze. She looked up to see him watching her, a tentative smile on his face and a question in his eyes. Unable to answer she simply smiled back as she accepted the strength, turning her hand to grasp his in gratitude for the comfort he didn't even know, couldn't possibly know, that she needed.
