“You sure you’re up to snorkeling?” Lucas asked me early the next morning.

We’d been up late eating and decorating the Christmas tree. We’d taken our time, making sure it looked perfect, then sitting down and enjoying it before he dozed off on the couch.

“Of course.”

The coffee that morning had helped, and we weren’t due there for a while yet. We were just going to sit on the beach for a moment and get some air.

To be honest, an afternoon of snorkeling sounded amazing.

I’d done a quick search on my phone last night before the wine bottles had made an appearance, and I had to admit, I couldn’t wait. Dominique or no Dominique. Just the chance to be in the peaceful water, alone with my thoughts…well, maybe better off alone with my camera and the abundance of colorful fish.

Lucas took another turn, and a few moments later, we found ourselves in a parking lot. He took a spot near the path to the beach and parked. I sat there looking out at the water I could see even from here, the waves gently rolling in the distance. The dock looked empty of people, a handful of boats bobbing casually on the water. Maybe there were more than one tour boat going out this afternoon, I mused. Maybe Dominique was going to be scheduled elsewhere. Too bad, I thought as I mentally crossed my fingers.

Lucas took the fob from the ignition, stuffed it in his shorts pocket, and looked at me with a grin. “All set?”

I undid my seat belt then leaned forward, picking up my tote bag with the essentials for the day—camera, batteries, spare SD Card, sunscreen, baseball cap. “All set.”
