Richard opened the door to Blooming Lovely and looked around the store. Thankfully, Paris was busy helping a customer. All morning, heâd tried to decide whether coming here was a good idea. But it was Parisâ last day, and he wanted her to know he was thinking about her.
Some of his nerves disappeared when she turned around. She was wearing a bright blue dress with yellow and pink flowers printed across the fabric. When she saw him, her smile made his decision to come here even more worthwhile.
After the customer left the store, she came to say hello. âI didnât expect to see you today. Have you finished work early?â
âIâm on my way to Anchor Lane. I thought Iâd stop by and see how your last dayâs going.â
âWeâve been busy since we opened, but I wouldnât have it any other way. It stops me from thinking about leaving.â
âI know how that feels.â Richard handed her the box heâd brought with him. âNormally, I would have brought you flowers to wish you luck, but that doesnât have the same impact when youâre a florist.â
âYou didnât have to bring me anything.â
Richard shrugged, hoping she didnât realize what a big deal it was to him.
Carefully, Paris unwrapped the box. When she saw what was inside, she smiled. âHow did you know I have a sweet tooth?â
âYou said you like the fudge from Sweet Treats, so I bought you a selection of flavors. If youâre feeling a little stressed, the sugar might help.â
âThanks. It might come in handy sooner than you think.â
âWhy? Whatâs happened?â
âNadineâs mom is changing a few wedding details. Their planner has called me three times to make sense of what she wants.â
âThe weddingâs this weekend. Why is she making changes?â
Paris looked across the store at another customer. âIâm not sure Mrs. Kingston is ready for her daughter to get married.â
âDo you think sheâs deliberately sabotaging their plans?â
âNot deliberately, but sheâs creating a lot of stress.â
âDo you need me to do anything?â
Paris shook her head. âIâll be okay. Iâm going to The Flower Cottage after work to create some more displays. Once theyâre done, I can focus on Nadineâs wedding.â
âIf thereâs anything you need, Iâm only a phone call away.â
âThanks. Iâd better go. Mrs. Gilford looks as though she needs some help choosing her flowers.â Paris kissed his cheek. âI appreciate you coming to see me.â Slipping the fudge into her pocket, she hurried across the store.
Richard left Blooming Lovely with a smile on his face. It wasnât until he was almost at Anchor Lane that he realized how much difference Paris had made in his life.
Since heâd started working on her store, he hadnât stopped smiling. Except for the times when Tommy and the rest of the crew did something crazy.
He just hoped today wasnât one of those days.
