him. Fresh heat and magic danced over his skin, and for a moment

Roman could see what Lyris did when she looked at him: his nipples had

darkened and he was sheened with sweat. The scars on his legs were more

vivid. His expression was stark, his eyes a little wild. And because she was

also still connected to the part of her that was animal, this aroused her.

"What do I see? I see freedom from old prejudices. I see a partner." She

looked down for a moment at where their bodies joined and shivered.

"And I see chains. But that's all for later, if we survive. Roman, do you

really want to…? I mean, can you really…?"

Chains? He didn't like that word, but he did sense some bond had

formed between them. He pushed that thought away, too, for later

examination. Thinking would only spoil the moment—the second moment.

To which he was about to attend.

"Yes. Goddess, yes!" he answered, giving in to the magic. His hands

went around Lyris's waist, and he closed his eyes because he found he

didn't need them to see what she saw, to feel what she felt. "I do want."
