* * *

Noonie and Skinny K walked into Noonie’s house to see Phoenix sitting on the couch with a suitcase next to her.

“Whoa, what’s up, Phoenix?” Noonie asked, noticing the seriousness on her face and the suitcase.

Skinny K saw what was about to go down. The look on her face and the suitcase told him that she’d somehow found out about him giving Chantel a ride and money, so he held out his hand for some dap. “Look, fam, this some domestic shit, so I will catch your ass on the rebound.” He gave Noonie some dap then spoke to Phoenix. “See you later, Phoenix.”

“Maybe.” Her lips were twisted.

Skinny K walked out of the house, and as he headed to his Camaro, he thought about how he’d told Noonie that he had fucked up helping Chantel out without letting Phoenix know.

“What’s this shit about, baby?” Noonie asked, thinking that he hadn’t done anything wrong, even though like Skinny K, he pretty much knew what she was upset about.

“I’m going to cut to the chase, were you with Chantel?”

Noonie, who was still standing looking down at Phoenix, said, “You know I see her whenever I pick up my son, so why you tripping?”

Her eyes tightened and she pointed her finger at Noonie as she spat, “So now you want to talk to me like I’m some fool. I think you know I’m not one of those dumb ass rats out in the streets y’all have to deal with while hustling, so don’t talk to me like I’m some type of fool.”

“I’m not talking to you any kind of way,” he said as he walked to the kitchen.

“Where are you going!” she asked as she stood to follow him.

“To get a beer. I’m thirsty.”

“You walking away while I’m talking to you about something serious.”

They were in the kitchen. Noonie was leaning in the refrigerator getting a beer. He used the opener to pop the cap off the imported beer and leaned his back on the door of the refrigerator. He didn’t think anyone had seen him, so he wondered had Skinny K or Antwan said anything. He quickly dismissed the thought of them telling Phoenix, but wondered had Antwan pillow talked what happened to Mya. If he had, women stick together like men, and she was sure to have told it.

“What you done heard?”

“What, are you admitting that something went down?”

He sipped and was calm when he said, “You’re the one who coming at me with some bullshit, so you tell me what you heard.” Noonie wasn’t about to tell on himself.

“McDonald’s ring a bell?”

There was a pause, and when he didn’t answer right away, she knew he was gathering his thoughts. She folded her arms. “See, Noonie, I guess the shit is true.”

“What, Phoenix? Tell me.” He had a slight attitude and she detected it.

“I don’t believe this shit. It’s all in the streets about you and Chantel up at McDonald’s with her two kids and kissing and shit.” She glared at him then continued.
