Chapter 7
Before vacationing with the family, Daija, Malik and Camren scoured Houston to make payouts in order to keep everyone quiet. With duffle bags and grooving through alleyways the team had gotten the underhanded task taken care of. Daija handled the contracts that Camren drew up which told the payee that under no circumstance are they allowed to let anyone slip through their fingers when speaking with the DEA if having the chance, and no one was allowed to say that they were affiliated with the Commodores unless they in fact purchased professional services or property from them.
Within a gruesome four hours everything was settled and Malik took mental notes of how you didn’t always have to be cruel in order to get your point across or come off as beastly to handle business. He had already developed a sense of how he wanted to conduct business in his own fashion and he was ready and willing to do so, but there was a larger issue at hand. The DEA had been fucking with the wrong family, and how else would he plead his allegiance before taking his rights? He’d find whomever was trying to shut down the Union and take their scalps back to the Commodores. While out with Daija and Camren he thought back to Zoe’s outburst and how quickly she turned her back on him. Maybe she did have something in her rage that just so happened to be truth, but it wasn’t him that she should’ve be upset with.
When the trio arrived at the hotel, Daija gave him a sock in the arm after they stepped off the elevator onto their floor. “Rumor says to put on your swim trunks. She says we need to soak up as much sun as we can before dinner. Except for Zoe of course.”
He nodded and threw her a smile though he hadn’t felt like giving her one at the moment, and headed to his room. After letting himself in, he tossed his keycard onto the counter inside the kitchenette and took off his denim jacket to lay it over on the opposite side of the room in a chair that sat in a small office space. His head was hurting with all of the thinking he had been doing within the last couple of days. He could hardly sleep when trying to piece together what was going on and it needed to be done. So instead of soaking up sun, he planned on getting some sleep. He was due back in Haiti while his father stayed low in Alabama and take over things while still learning. When he went to Zeus about him not being ready, the wise one admitted that he too wasn’t ready for Malik to get out there, but he’d be able to use it as hands on learning. He told Malik that it didn’t matter what time of day he needed help that he needed to remember that this Union takes care of one another and that he could always pick up the phone and call either him, Rumor or Camren.
