4x4

This is a hard exercise where you’ll have a lot of tries on relatively hard problems. In addition to becoming stronger, you’ll also be improving your capacity so that you’ll be able to climb longer boulder problems at your maximum level and be able to have more tries on your project per session. Choose four different problems, preferably with different grip types, movement patterns and wall angles. Climb problems one, two, three and four with a 60-second rest in between each problem. After problem four take a 3- to 5-minute rest and then repeat the whole process three more times so that in total you’ll have 16 tries (four tries per problem). Since the resting time between each problem is short, the problems shouldn’t be too close to your maximum level, so choose problems where you have enough of a margin so that you’re able to rest enough between each try.

NUMBER OF MOVES PER PROBLEM: 6 to 8

REST: minimum 3 minutes

NUMBER OF TRIES IN TOTAL: 16 (4 tries on each problem on a circuit of 4 problems)

WALL ANGLE: vertical to roof, 1 problem per angle

HOLDS: varied
