Mark watched her from the tree line near the path. Monique was bent, plucking the weeds that sprung up amidst the white gravel that surrounded the marble slab near her. He could see from where he stood that her mouth was moving, that she was talking. He looked at his watch and figured that he could give her just a little more time. Couldn’t be much, though. Time wasn’t a luxury that either of them had right now. Though he knew this, she didn’t.

He leaned against one of the trees as he looked on. Reached beneath the unbuttoned dark blazer that he wore and scratched his shoulder. The white shirt and blazer, itself, were brand-new and itched. He hated having to wear this get up, but it was necessary.

As he leaned there, now flopping his red tie, he watched as she finally stood and dusted her hands off. He peeped at his watch again and decided that was as much time as his consideration could allow her.

He looked in both directions of the little road in front of him, crossed it, and headed towards her.
