Frequently Mistaken for Ghosts

What is often mistaken for a ghostly haze (commonly known as a vortex) is often nothing more than exhaled breath or cigarette smoke. The imagination then finds identifiable shapes where none actually exist. (See if you can pick out the face in the photo. Hint: left center.)

More solid-looking vortexes are usually camera straps or other objects that have inadvertently fallen in front of the lens. Notice how the flash makes it appear even more “ghostly.”
