CHAPTER 9:

THE BUSINESS ANALYSTS ARE NOT WORKING AS A TEAM

When the BA team isn’t working well together…

Research team-building strategies and try some out.

Analyze each team member’s motivations. Find a way to establish common goals and shared benefits.

Having varied opinions, thinking, personalities, knowledge, and skills is a strength of a team. Leverage the varied contributions of the team members.

Turn conflict into creative tension. Say, “We see this differently, let’s explore why we each feel this way.”

Bring in a neutral third party to help facilitate the resolution of your team conflict. Connect with your HR department for resources.

If you have ever felt eclipsed or thwarted by a fellow BA, reflect on and log these feelings. Carry this with you for when you are in a position to impact another BA.
