Basic Figural Candle Spell

Each figural candle has its specific forte, but it is possible to give a general guideline here for working with a figural candle. In chapter 8, you’ll find more complex figural candle workings such as adding support candles and designing layouts.

You will need

Figural candle

Spiritual oil

Dried or powdered herbs

Inscribing tool

Tray or dish

Petition Paper

Glitter (optional)

1. Choose a candle in the shape and color that supports your intention.

2. Inscribe your intentions on the candle. You can write the name of your target or words or phrases (for example, “love,” “luck,” “perfect health”). Write horizontally across the candle, or write vertically, upward, from base to wick, for things you want to bring in; or downward, from wick toward base, for things you want to clear out.

3. Dress the candle in a spiritual oil that supports your intention by applying several drops of oil to your hand and rubbing it on the surface of the candle. Focus your intention by visualizing your good outcome or speaking your spell words. Feel the energy of your intention moving through your hands and into the candle as you apply it upward for things you want to bring in, or downward for things you want to clear out.

4. Sprinkle an herb or glitter or both on the candle. Dry, light, crumbled, or powdered herbs will adhere the best. Just a light sprinkling is safe and effective in your spell. Glitter is non-flammable and can be added safely.

5. Place your petition paper under your tray.

6. Place your candle on the tray.

7. Sprinkle heavier chunkier herbs around the candle base.

8. Light your candle as you speak your spell words.

9. Snuff your candle out when you go to sleep or leave the house and relight it when you return.
