Chapter Sixteen

“Don’t let Bade see those,” I teased. “So, how does this work exactly?” I asked as I sat down beside the tub.

Alek knelt down beside me and turned on the water. “Each of these stones has different magical properties. Whoever installed this, it was brilliantly made. You see, when you bathe with the proper potion, it will help to align your chakras. It is the perfect place to meditate, the ultimate refuge from psychic overload. I’ve practically lived in it since I moved in.”

“So, what now?” I asked.

“Now, you should get undressed if you are going to enjoy the effects properly,” he said. “And while you do that, I will go and make us some tea. And while we drink our tea, there are some things I would like to tell you about your ancestor.”

“Mathias? Well, that was a stupid question I guess. But, what about him?”

“Get naked,” he said with mock force in his tone.

I laughed and stood up to do just that when a thought occurred to me. “You’ve never seen my scars,” I said softly. “When you saw me that night, it was from a distance.”

“Do they bother you?” the wizard asked kindly.

“Not like they used to.”

“They do not bother me. Now, get in the tub. I’ll go and get the first potion and then I’ll make our tea.”

I unbuttoned my jeans and he rose to leave.

“Alek?”

“Yes?”

“Thank you. I really appreciate your help.”

He smiled at me before leaving the room. When he returned I was already chest deep in the water and didn’t feel so exposed. Yes, I know that he could see through the water since there were no bubbles, but having the water there still made me feel more comfortable.

Alek knelt beside the tub again and I noticed he was carrying several small bottles in his hands. The first one was the color of a clear sky and it swirled inside the container. He held the bottle up and let one drop fall into the water. He repeated this with a yellow bottle, a red one, a green one, and another that looked completely white.

All of the colors swirled together in the water without me having to move at all. It was almost like sitting in a whirlpool. The water also became a few degrees warmer as the potion boiled and mixed itself before my eyes.

“Relax,” he said, “and I’ll go get the tea.”

His tone of voice said clearly that relaxing was not a suggestion it was more of a command. So, I rested my head against the side of the tub, took a deep breath and closed my eyes.

“There you are.”

I nearly jumped out of my skin when Mathias started talking.

“You scared me,” I scolded.

“Ah, I see Alek has you in his tub. I knew you would like him when we first met. He has the right personality to be able to tell you the truth without being insulting.”

“Well, he’s on his way back to tell me the truth about you,” I taunted.

“No, my dear, he is on his way back to tell you the truth about yourself.
