CHAPTER
FIVE TACTICS
At this point, it’s likely that you have purchased or borrowed a deer rifle, have learned how to shoot it, and feel ready to go out hunting. The problem is that deer are not paper targets and will not do us the favor of standing still in prescribed places while we kneel and take aim for the perfect shot. The creatures will move about in vexing ways, managing to be where we are not with an alarming regularity. The only solution is to become skilled at knowing where they are likely to be at any given time, considering varying environmental conditions while also managing to escape their detection. Before any of that comes into play, however, it’s a good idea to spend some time practicing your shot.
