The wonky bookcase had been hiding a small cavity in the wall.

“There’s something in there,” Nancy whispered. “Like someone’s hidden it.”

She reached in and pulled out a leather briefcase covered in black mould. She dusted it off and read the name on the front written in faded gold letters.

“Dr W. Birkin.”

Nancy opened the briefcase and pulled out a black and white photograph of three men and a woman, all wearing white coats. In the background were large metal cylinders and benches covered in scientific equipment.
