Then, there were spectators who insisted that there were multiple objects in the sky. To some, these were not large, solitary objects, but an organized swarm of small planes. Whereas some evoked the imagery of small jets smoothly darting across the skies and mostly dodging the beams of the searchlights, others saw inscrutable flying objects that seemed to hover in place. A few of these witnesses even asserted that they had seen a fleet of American fighter jets tail these planes just before the eruption of gunfire. To this, the Fourth Interceptor Command maintained that while the military was on its toes due to the alert, not one American plane had taken flight that evening.
