In this chapter, we’ve examined the beguiling nature of dreams and the importance of counterbalancing this by learning to calm our emotions when we first get lucid and perform various techniques if we feel lucidity slipping. We’ve explored lucid awareness as a kind of light switch with a dimmer function, something that has varying stages and intensities. I’ve shared my CLEAR stabilisation technique and a variety of other practices that combat the loss of lucidity and contribute valuable skills for staying lucid in dreams.

We’ve also looked at the importance of honing our powers of observation during the day to sharpen our mental clarity. The more we get used to being highly alert in our waking lives, the easier it is to snap into a state of high lucidity in our dreams. The next chapter provides more practices for staying lucid and focuses on how we can use waking trance, creative states, and meditation to train our brains to keep on lucid dreaming.
