The vitality of dumb, primordial matter is also expressed in the following sequence of rooms; the large vegetal festoon made from spugna, coral, and shells which surrounds the opening into the little grotto of Venus reveals, to the attentive eye, the visible presence of male and female sexual symbols, cleverly masked so as to appear as fruits and vegetables.
