-CHAPTER ELEVEN-

Cornelius turned the Cuban cigar over in his fingers as he sent a huge cloud of smoke up to join the others that floated around the ceiling of his study. His wife hated when he smoked, but he took time out for it every occasionally. (In addition, always when Cathy was not home. She was spending the night at friends) He looked at the glowing tip and was pleased with the Avalanche unit in Greece. After an unexpected complication, they still succeeded in securing the third piece of the Alignment. The Eminence seems content for the moment and that was all that really mattered. A chill passed through him as he remember his last meeting with the Eminence. He quickly blocked this out of his thoughts and thought about safer things.

The only drawback from Greece had been the unforeseeable death of Richard Blake formally known as Avalanche 3. not really too much of a lost there, he thought as he put the cigar on the side of his mouth and leaned forward to type in his personal code into his laptop. He searched until Richard’s profile took up the screen. He deleted the information by closing the file permanently on the recruited mercenary. His death was a good thing on some levels, it would mean promotions for other hungry mercenaries he had at his command. He had invented a tier system for certain talents in training that were useful but lacking the necessary ingredient for a place in his most elite unit.

They all had odd jobs that tied into the Eminence’s plans from a pesky foreign prime minister who needed a lesson on taking brides and reneging on promises, to assassination of rival oppositions. Someone would be ready to replace the fallen. One thing bothered him; however, the appearance of this mystery stranger in the Greece affair. The man had the technology and ability to jam their communication devices that he had received fresh off the black market. He turn this over carefully in his mind as he inhaled the thick smoke. His eyes involuntarily traveled to rest on the ticking antique grandfather clock that sat in the corner by the door.

Eleven twenty three.

The Eminence had informed him that his presence was required tonight.

After he had reported the problem, the Avalanche unit had encountered and the Eminence wanted the details in person. After what happen last time, the sudden invitation made him feel a bit uneasy. He found an suitable replacement for the now vacant Avalanche spot and closed his files. Smashing the remaining part of the cigar into the ashtray. He stood quickly to put on his jacket and hat. (Spring weather did not agree with him). He walked out of his study knowing he had alerted his driver at six to have the smoke black jaguar XFR out front no later than eleven-fifteen.
