Chapter 16

Wes’s POV

It had been nothing but silence since the day he escaped, he avoided looking at me when I visited. Hiding in the shadows until I left.

Not today.

Today I will get him to acknowledge me.

With a quick stop in the kitchen to fill a bowl I went down to the cells.

A warrior I didn’t recognise stood at the door, with a bow he unlocked it for me.

Danny stayed in the shadows on the far side of the cell.

Without looking at him I went straight for the bed, sitting on it with my back against the wall beside the bed.

The wolf didn’t even look up as I placed the bowl on the bed beside me, pulling out my phone.

For a while I just sat there, scrolling through my phone.

The smell of fresh lasagne soon filled the small cell and as Danny’s stomach growled, I couldn’t help but smirk.

His eyes were fixed on the bowl beside me as he waited.

Waited for me to give up and leave like I had been doing.

Except I’m not going anywhere, if he wants the food he can ask for it or come and get it.

“I’m not going anywhere. If you want it, come and get it.”

With a snort he turned, sat down and stared at the wall.

With a chuckle, I went back to scrolling on my phone.

It wasn’t long until the wolf snorted again, his glare now on me.

“I told you, I’m not going anywhere. So, either get over it or tell me what I did wrong.”

Again, he snorted, his eyes never leaving me.

“What is it? What did I do?”

When he stayed silent I couldn’t help but get angry.

I had thought that we were friends, that all the time I spent down here had meant something.

Apparently not.

“I thought we were friends, why are you ignoring me?”

With a tilt of his head, he moved closer.

His eyes still glued to me.

Not even daring to breathe, I stayed silent as he continued to step into the middle of the cell.

Stopping only a couple feet from me.

His eyes shifted between me and the bowl of food as he sat. His tail wrapping around his legs as he continued to stare at me.

A few more minutes of silence past before I couldn’t stand it anymore.

“What did I do? Because I’ve been going over it for days and I can’t figure it out.”

For a minute the room was silent as he stared at me. Something in his eyes I couldn’t place.

With a bow of his head, his gaze fell to the floor.

You said, you forgot to feed me.

“Yes, because I was with Andy.”

The wolfs eyes softened as he met my gaze again.

I’m not a responsibility, I was afraid you were hurt. Not hungry.

Guilt filled me as he avoided my eyes.

I hadn’t even realised what I said.

I had made him feel like a chore.

“I didn’t mean it like that, I swear. You’re not a responsibility to me, you’re my friend. I don’t come down here out of obligation, I come to talk to my friend.
