Saturday morning when I woke, I rolled over and felt a piece of paper crinkle beneath me. I sat up in bed and used my Fire to create a small flame so I could see through the dark dungeon. My heart leapt when I saw the curved letters of my name on the outside of an envelope.

Amelia. Kiwi must've snuck in last night to get me a message.

I instantly became alert as I tore the envelope open and read Amelia's letter.

Sophia,

Today's my only day in town. Breakfast at Dragon Bean?

Amelia

I'd never been to Dragon Bean before, but I'd passed it in Kinpago. It was a cute little coffee shop on the edge of town close to the school.

I kicked off my covers, which stirred Esis awake, and climbed down from the top bunk.

"Sophia?" Liam groaned from where he slept.

"Shh…" I told him, glancing around at all the other Biyami who were sleeping in. "My sister's in town. I'm going to have breakfast with her."

Liam rubbed his eyes. "Okay. You want me to come with?"

I could tell he still wasn't feeling well. Anxiety knotted in my gut.

"No," I whispered. "I'll be fine."

Esis helped me pick out my clothes for the day, then followed me into the bathroom to shower. He grumbled when the water sprayed his fur, but he didn't seem to mind when I told him he could give Julian a bath. Esis carried the dragon egg to a puddle in the shower room and started scrubbing the outside of the egg while humming a soft tune.

After a quick shower, I dried off, dressed, and threw my hair into a ponytail. I couldn't get out of the castle and to the coffee shop soon enough.

The morning sunlight was a warm welcome to the dark, dank conditions in the Biyami dorms. I was actually feeling pretty good as I walked into town.

When I stepped inside Dragon Bean, I spotted Amelia right away. She sat in a booth, reading the paper and sipping on her coffee. Kiwi sat on her shoulder and looked interested in the pictures on the page.

It was quiet in here, with only a half dozen patrons. It looked like a normal coffee shop, except with dragon decorations everywhere. Different colored eggs had been placed on shelves above all the tables. They must've been reconstructed after the dragons hatched, because I didn't think anyone would just leave dragon eggs lying around like this. The light fixtures were even made from dragon scales. It was all very colorful and reminded me of a kaleidoscope.

Amelia heard the sound of the bell above the door and turned. Her eyes lit up when she saw me. She squealed and stood with her arms out wide.

"Sophia!" she sang.

I pulled her into a tight hug. She was so warm and familiar that it took my breath away. I just wanted to squeeze her for hours. "Amelia, it's so great to see you."

She drew away and took my hand. "Let's get you something to eat. On me.
