A formation of F-5 aggressor aircraft fly over the Nellis Range. The F-5 served in both the Sixty-fourth and Sixty-fifth Aggressor Squadrons and made an ideal opponent due to its size and maneuverability, which closely approximated the MiG-21. Select pilots were lucky enough to face actual MiG aircraft as part of the Constant Peg program. Here, a MiG-17 and MiG-21 of the 4,417th Test and Evaluation Squadron fly in formation with F-5s. The Constant Peg program ran from 1977 through 1988. Pilots flew the MiG-17, MiG-21, and MiG-23. More than fifty-nine hundred U.S. Air Force, Navy, and Marine pilots were trained to effectively fight the MiG aircraft. (Photo courtesy of the U.S. Air Force.)
