Jane’s story is similar in that it features feelings of great comfort but different in that it does not involve the death of a family member or loved one.

Thank You

Only ten days ago, on my way to work, I was unfortunate enough to be at the scene of a car crash, just a couple of moments after it had happened. As a nurse, I felt I should stop to see if I could help. The motorcyclist who I knelt down to assess had clearly died, but I knew I had to make an attempt to save him, so started CPR [cardiopulmonary resuscitation] at the scene. However, it was no use and he was pronounced dead some time later when he was on the way to hospital in the ambulance.

This experience traumatised me. I was tormented by thoughts that I could have done more to help him. Some four days later, on the Friday night, I was again unable to sleep for thinking about him. I had been drinking, and began to cry for him and his family. After about five minutes of bitter sobbing, I felt myself engulfed in a comforting warm glow, and suddenly felt a sense of calm and peace wash over me, and I felt humbled. I know without a shadow of a doubt that it was him come to tell me it’s okay, that he knows I tried my best, and to be at peace.

After this event happened, I know that heaven exists – he helped me in my bleakest moment of despair, just as I had helped him.
