Don’t Just Go for It,
Sow for It!
Here’s a story that makes quite a point on the subject of sowing and reaping. Read on and fasten your seat belts!
Married for 25 years, he looked at his wife one day and said, “Honey, 25 years ago, we had a cheap apartment, an old car, we slept on a sofa bed, and watched a 10-inch black and white television—but I got to sleep every night with a hot, 25-year-old blonde. Now, we have a nice house, a new car, a big bed, and a plasma screen television, but I’m sleeping with a 50-year-old woman. It seems to me that you are not holding up your side of things.”
His wife was a very reasonable woman. She said, “Well, go out and find yourself a hot, 25-year-old blonde, and I’ll make sure that you will once again have a cheap apartment, an old car, sleep on a sofa bed, and watch a 10-inch black and white television.”
Actions have consequences. The wife’s reaction illustrates my point. Many people today don’t think about consequences. They just do what they want to do and then are surprised when the reaping comes. How many have learned the hard way that seat belts are not as confining as wheelchairs? How many have learned the hard way that a good time to keep your mouth shut is when you are in deep water?
The Bible says in Galatians 6:7, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.”
There is a principle of sowing and reaping.
This principle is at work in everything we do. We can either use this principle or be used by this principle. We can use it to produce positive results or negative results. It depends on what kind of seed we sow.
Let’s become aware of this fact of life and activate it for our benefit, for our family’s benefit, and for the benefit of our communities. With the help of this principle, we may even improve our dog’s lives! Money will buy a fine dog, but kindness will make him wag his tail.
