The centerpiece of the Union Pacific System Pavilion was locomotive No. 8444, the last steam locomotive purchased by the railroad. A world’s fair veteran, having been displayed at Spokane’s Expo 74, the engine is seen here leaving Fresno, California, on its way to the fair. The trip was so popular with steam engine fans that a book was published chronicling the journey. (Courtesy of Ivan S. Abrams.)

The covered walkway crossing Bayou Plaza was named the Cajun Walk. Designed to resemble one of the many fishing piers found across the state, Cajun Walk was much like the Empress Walk in Centennial Plaza, providing some shade as guests headed towards the International Riverfront.
