FORD

Ford was a very dumb demon, and he knew that was the truth. Why? Simple. He was going for a swim with Meg. It would be nothing but trouble. He could sense it.

He almost turned back twice on his way to the water, but in the end, he walked all the way in. Meg was already in the waves. She wore a little pink bikini, putting most of her body on display. It was one of those interestingly shaped bikinis that looked more like club wear than a swimsuit. He enjoyed it quite a bit. Meg had all of the right curves to fill it out.

“Hey, I’ve got a request,” he began.

“Oh?” she smiled at him, and he completely forgot he was trying to be professional.

He cleared his throat and tried to beat back his desire for Meg. “Promise we will not talk about the case. When I need time to think, I need to check out completely.”

“But I thought the whole point of the swim was to chat about the facts,” she pressed

“No. It’s to chat about everything else but the case.” And this was why Ford thought he was a dumb demon. How was he supposed to keep away from Meg now that they were mostly naked in the water? He should’ve done his thinking by himself like a responsible demon.

She grinned. “Interesting method. You don’t obsess over the facts.”

“I do, but in a manner completely the opposite of yours,” he pointed out with a smile.

Meg giggled, though she tried to hide the sound halfway through by ducking into the water. “Don’t diss my whiteboards,” she laughed. “They help me.”

“I bet they do. They’re just not how I do things.”

“How do you remember everything about a case, then?” she asked, curious. Ford was momentarily paralyzed by the smile she gave him.

“You’re beautiful,” he whispered. The words were out of his mouth before he could think to stop them.

Her eyes went wide, and she smiled. “Maybe that poison earlier did more damage than we thought.”

He threw his head back with a laugh. “That’s a hell of a thing to say when someone compliments you.”

“You took me by surprise.”

“How can that be true? You know how stunning you are.”

“Maybe that’s a demon thing. I don’t exactly go around thinking about how cute I am.”

Ford continued to laugh. “That’s not what I mean, and you know it.”

Meg’s face was flushed, but it wasn’t the same shade as when he had kissed her. He wanted to see her cheeks redden again. He wanted to taste her mouth again. He wanted to do a hell of a lot more than that.

He swam by her, and his arm brushed against her body. He was almost mad with desire and swam away. The last thing he needed was for Meg to notice that he was sprouting an erection. He was a demon, for fuck’s sake. He had been alive for so long that he didn’t even remember when he was created.

But leave him two minutes in the water with a witch, and he was a twelve-year-old mortal.
