CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

Anderson took a moment to take in Evelyn’s words. She was pregnant, and it was with his child. That was why her scent changed, but still smelled familiar.

Fear tried to take over his heart, but he took several calming breaths and looked down at his mate. Yes, he was still afraid for her, but another emotion pushed out the fear—joy.

“You’re pregnant?” he asked, just to make sure he heard her right.

“Yes, and it is your baby, Anderson,” she replied. He could smell her own fear. She was afraid that he was going to do what he had always done: run away.

“That is amazing!” he gushed and bent down to place a loving kiss upon her lips. When he pulled back, he could see the confusion on her face.

“It is?” she asked, pulling back from his embrace. Anderson smiled at her and leaned in to nuzzle her neck and then kiss his way down to her belly. Inside of her was his cub.

“Yes. I won’t lie and say I’m not scared because I still am. Now though, there is this sense of awe. It has taken over my body. I won’t ask you to let me mate you now. I’m going to show you how amazing I can be and how I would be a wonderful father too,” he explained, crushing her tightly against his body.

“You have no idea how scared I was to tell you,” she replied.

He kissed the top of her head. “I don’t blame you at all. When are you due?” Anderson looked down at his mate. She had her hair pulled away from her face in a low ponytail down her back.

“March seventeenth.” He reached out and pulled the hair tie out of her hair. He liked her best with her hair down and wild. Running his fingers through her hair, she practically purred in his arms.

“That is wonderful. Do you want to go and eat?” he asked, hearing the timer blaring for the hundredth time. Her stomach rumbled as an answer.

He chuckled. “Come on. We can talk about everything over dinner,” he announced, getting out of bed to get dressed again.

He watched Evvy put on a pair of yoga pants and a loose-fitting shirt. Unable to resist, he kissed her again and slipped his tongue into her mouth. She responded without hesitating, her tongue twining with his.

“Thank you for giving us another chance,” he whispered as she pulled away from the kiss.

“I love you, Anderson. I’ve wanted you from the second I saw you at Roxie’s house,” she shared and he almost tossed her back onto the bed to kiss her again. The only thing stopping him was the grumbling coming from her stomach.

“Let’s eat,” he said instead and pulled her into the kitchen. Pushing her into a chair, he walked over to the oven and took the slightly crispy chicken parmesan out.

“Smells amazing,” she announced, taking a deep breath. He smiled and dished it up before walking over to the table with two plates.

“I hope it tastes all right.
