One week later…

“Blaze,” I say, frowning. I look around but don’t see anyone else. “What are you doing here? Are you coming to train with us?”

“Goliath asked to change assignment,” the male says.

“He did, did he?” I grin.

Skylar elbows me in the ribs. “Stop that!”

“Yes, he did,” Blaze confirms.

“Why? We were all getting along so well.” Skylar frowns.

“You know why,” I tell her. “Goliath didn’t want to be just friends with you, Skylar. I think he started to realize it was all he was going to get.”

“I thought we were friends. I think you’re wrong about him wanting more.”

I laugh. “You might have been friends with him, but the feeling was not mutual.”

She makes a noise of agreement, looking like she’s deep in thought.

Dagger and Hunter arrive, and Skylar goes over to Hunter. The two of them get chatting. Dagger joins Blaze and me, and we say our hellos and get the bullshit out of the way.

“So where is Goliath?” Dagger asks, frowning.

“He asked to change assignments,” Blaze says.

“Oh! I suppose that makes sense, since the two of you are going at it like rabbits. I’m surprised you even have a dick left. I mean, I thought Hunter and I were bad…we’re not.” Dagger shakes his head. “You’re both fucking loud, too.”

“Nonsense!” I snort. “I’m quiet during sex. Always have been.”

Both he and Blaze laugh their asses off.

“What? I am,” I say, because it’s true.

“You’re noisy,” Dagger says.

“I am not.”

“You really are.” Blaze nods his head.

“All the grunting and groaning and roaring,” Dagger says. “I’ve almost run to your rescue and on more than one occasion. Then I realized that you were in the throes of—”

“Okay, okay. That’s enough,” I tell them.

“Poor old Goliath was completely smitten with the female,” Blaze says, smirking.

I feel my back go up. “We’re exclusive until we mind-bond. He’s welcome to ask Skylar out after that.” The thought makes me feel scratchy and irritable.

“Oh, he can, can he?” Dagger lifts his brows.

“Yes.” I need to change the subject. I’m not talking about this to these assholes. “Why are you here?” I ask Blaze. “Aren’t you bonded? Shouldn’t you be at rider training?”

“I should be, but the human still won’t talk to me. She wants nothing to do with me.”

“To be fair, you did kill her boyfriend,” Dagger says.

“My dragon killed the male. It was weird; he hated him on sight. Wasn’t happy until he was charred. I’ve apologized to her and explained how ornery our beasts can be, but she won’t hear any of it.”

“The male you killed on the first day. What was his name?’ I ask.

“Halbert Grynne,” Blaze says.

“Wasn’t he a friend of hers as well?” Dagger asks.

Blaze nods.

I choke out a laugh, putting up a hand. “Sorry!” I say. “So, you killed her friend and her boyfriend?”

“Yes, but—”

“Holy shit! No wonder the female doesn’t want anything to do with you.” Dagger throws out a laugh as well.

“And not for lack of trying.” He looks downtrodden. “I finally mind-bonded a human, and she wants sweet fuck-all to do with me.
