During a normal game night. While the puck is stopped, Paul McCann, Nashville Predators public address announcer, or Maverick, the in-arena host, will draw the attention of the crowd to wherever Gnash is at the given moment.

Gnash describes one particularly memorable occurrence:

There was a little boy in the upper deck. I don’t remember his name, but he was born without hands, and of course everybody high-fives. I go through and high-five everybody. You know, fist bumps weren’t a thing back then, and I just distinctly remember this little boy so wanted to connect but with his birth defect, you know, clearly was different, shy, and reserved.

I’m not claiming to have created the fist-bump, but in that moment, that was the connection with him, and he and I had a fist-bump. After that, he would find me before every game. His parents ultimately became season ticket holders because their son wanted to go to every game and I would visit him in the upper deck and . . . if he wasn’t there, you know, the entire section up in the upper deck would find me and they’d say ‘Oh, he’s not here today. He’s not here’ or ‘Hold on, he’s in the bathroom. Don’t leave yet.’ Having those kinds of connections are the ones that make it all worth it.
