SLOW START

It took six games for the Cavaliers to notch their first victory of 2003-04, a 111-98 triumph over Washington on November 8 at Gund Arena. They improved to 4-7 but then dropped eight straight games, eventually falling to 6-19. Paul Silas was perplexed by his inability to stop the bleeding.

“I wondered about our slow start,” he said, “because things didn’t jell like I thought they would. I had Darius [Miles], Ricky [Davis], and LeBron starting with Z and Booz, and I thought we were going to be very athletic, teams were going to have a tough time matching up with us, and it just didn’t click. I wondered whether or not we were going to be able to sustain anything or not. We got off to the horrible start on the road, and I kind of wondered, ‘Hey, are we ever going to win a game?’ I knew we were going to win one eventually, but when?”
