Chapter 5

TURNING THE TABLES ON THE ENEMY

But if you indeed obey His voice and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.

—EXODUS 23:22

THE ENEMY WILL put poison in front of you to poison you. Then he will sit there and drink something that does not have poison in it, and he will say, “Okay, let’s have a drink.” And you are thinking, Something is wrong here, so you turn the table on the enemy. Now the enemy has your glass in front of him, and he gets really nervous, and you say, “Okay, let’s drink!” Suddenly, you see a stress crack because now the devil will have to drink his own poison. That is what I mean by turning the tables on the enemy.

In Exodus 23:22, it says, “If you indeed obey His voice and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.” God has already proclaimed that your enemies are His enemies, and it is part of the covenant.

I never wanted to work where I ended up working for 30 years. I certainly did not want to be in the airplane cabin if I could be in the cockpit. Once I got into the cabin as a flight attendant, I especially did not want to be there. You cannot imagine what that job entails. I used to go into the lavatory every flight and say, “God, whatever I have done to offend You, I am so sorry.”

When I graduated from Rhema Bible College, I was asked to stay with the college and travel as a singer for Rhema with Brother Hagin. I prayed, and the Lord told me not to do it, so I went to the airline. I had graduated and was fully capable of being in the ministry. I had donated one year after I graduated from school to help the youth at Rhema. Even though I worked at the church for free, I worked extra hard.

When I was asked to be a singer, I was very excited until the Lord said, “You are going to go to Southwest Airlines, and I told you this a while back.” I said, “Okay, Lord, I guess being a pilot is alright.” The Lord said, “Oh, no, not a pilot. You are going to be a flight attendant.” I thought, What have I done? The thing about it is, what I went through at my job prepared me for what I am doing now.

You might not believe this, but the only reason I can do what I am doing right now in my life is because of that job. I could never get up in front of people and speak or do anything, let alone play instruments and sing. I teach college classes and write books, and I can do all these different things all because I was placed in a situation where I was very uncomfortable, and it was not part of my personality.
